Bad omens around the world
Why is the number 4 considered first in the Chinese culture and the number 13 considered cursed in the Anglo-Saxon and western culture
-> the apprehension involving #4 :
Let's begin with four . four is a number that rings alarms and panic in the minds of many across the nations of
- China .
- Korea .
- Japan .
- Malaysia .
- Singapore .
The reason why it is so , is fairly simple but you have to understand the respective languages of these societies .
In order to really get it in mandarin Chinese , the word for the number four , is the term for the concept of dead or death is almost pronounced the same as su ; and so it's quite possible while speaking Chinese to accidentally speak the expression "death" while you're trying to speak the number 4 .
The veto is present
in both malaysia and singapore , due to the fact that both these countries speak modern chinese
language ; and same is the cause ; in both the korean and japanese tongues as well .
For both terms sounding almost identical or as a minimum , highly similar so because of this the
integer four has been quite taboo in chinese and east asian societies ; for centennials now .
Expressing the number four around a sick kinsman , or in a health Center , is especially avoided .
Presents in groups of four are sometimes unbidden .
Elevators and apartment structures will often skip the fourth floor and go directly from floor 3 to
the 5th floor. In hong kong , some apartment buildings have skipped all the floors from 40 to 49
in order to jump all of the 40s ; although this is more likely to annunciate a building with a
higher number of floors , than from any fears of the paranormal .
In Mandarin chinese , 14 and 24 are often considered to be even worse than the base 4
because translated 14 sounds more Similar to will surely die while 24 sounds more like
effortless and undemanding , to die in many chineseneighborhoods there is a remarkable landed
property price drop on buildings with number four at the start or the end of their addresses .
The neighborhoods have removed four from their street addresses and become more commercial as a result .
But perhaps , the most extreme example for being afraid , of the number four ; in chinese culture comes
from the 2008 olympic games that were hosted in beijing ; Eight years previously in 2000 , beijing proposed to
host the games then and lost the proposal but they turned down to apply to tender the next games in 2004 ; and
chose instead to wait until 2008 , to apply again. Part of the conjecture ; for why they did this , was out of
the cultural fear and uneasiness surrounding the number four inside of china but still there's
other numbers that are equally dreaded in other areas of the world as well .
-> the apprehension involving #13 :
Let's move on to 13 which is generally more feared ,
in the western world ; and particularly in anglian or english-speaking countries .
There's a lot of speculations for how 13 came to be so notorious in the west like the
judas supposition ; which suggests that the apostle judas was the final man to sit with
christ at the last meal ; hence being the 13th member at the table and the one who
ultimately let down jesus to the romans.
The number two reason is that , on friday the 13th ; in october of 1307 king philip iv of
france , Iniquituously ordered to apprehend the knights templar ; so for whatever reason
the number 13 and especially friday the 13th is considered so hapless and unlucky in the
west , that approximately 17 to 21 million americans suffer from legal fears about the date ,
but before you condemn these millions of americans for having faith in pure superstition ;
consider the events surrounding apollo 13.
The three manned mission to the moon it was launched on april 11 1970 at 13:13 and two days
later on april the 13th suffered a destructive oxygen tank explosion on board that coerced the
mission to be aborted and get back to earth .
